Cameron Norrie achieved the most notable success of his professional journey by coming back from a set down to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had previously overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this win represents Norrie's first ever win over a sitting world top-ranked player.

Norrie, seeded 31st globally, also halted Alcaraz's supreme sequence of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive premier event wins, which marked the top run of performances in the young champion's young career.

The top seed seemed to be advancing smoothly towards victory early on as he sailed through the opening set. Nevertheless, Norrie gradually battled back back into the game by serving with improved accuracy and dragging the Spanish opponent into extended, physical points.
