Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important official commented the attack left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
