Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball stated this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
