NY Launches Online Platform for Citizens to Submit Immigration Videos After Detentions of Four US Citizens

The state AG has launched a fresh online portal urging locals to share photos and videos of ICE operations across the state. This move follows a day after a major ICE raid shook NYC's Chinatown, sparking widespread outcry.

American Citizens Detained In Enforcement Action

A US congressman disclosed during a Wednesday press conference that four citizens were taken into custody and kept for "nearly 24 hours" after the previous day's operation. Rallies occurred in the city on consecutive evenings.

"All New York residents is entitled to exist without intimidation," the attorney general declared in a announcement.

"If you witnessed and captured federal operations yesterday, I urge you to share that footage with us. We are pledged to examining these accounts and evaluating any wrongdoings."

Submission Process

The portal offers spaces to upload images and video footage of the incident, as well as a section to indicate location information. Prior to sending, individuals must check a box that acknowledges that "the attorney general might employ any documents, photographs, or videos in a public document, including in a lawsuit or public report."

Details of the Chinatown Raid

The Manhattan operation, which onlookers say featured more than 50 ICE personnel, happened in a well-known area of NYC where fake purses, items, goods and other goods are sold daily in large quantities – often to sightseers.

Recordings of the operation depict several hooded and equipped officers securing and holding a individual, and pushing back bystanders. Throngs of locals followed the agents along the roads. An armored truck was also seen rolling through the Manhattan avenues.

Political Response

During a midweek briefing organized with the immigrant advocacy group, congressman Dan Goldman, a Democrat, said that four nationals were taken by federal agents for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no situations where US citizens should be arrested for unjustly." He noted the citizens were released on the following day with no accusations made.

"The goal is evident here. It is not to take criminals off the street," the congressman stated. "This represents a armed campaign to incite tension. It is simply a pretext to incite violence for federal officials to bring in the troops to prevent unrest that they themselves caused."

Widespread Condemnation

Fury over the ICE raid rapidly grew – all three NYC mayor hopefuls denounced the raid, including Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Repeatedly, the Trump administration selects oppressive displays that generate terror, rather than security. It needs to cease," one mayoral candidate stated.

New York City advocacy organizations expressed outrage also.

"Immigration agents descended on Manhattan's Chinatown with tactical trucks, covered personnel and tactical gear to target local sellers attempting to earn income. This action had no connection to citizen protection and everything to do with frightening communities and neighborhoods," said the head of a rights organization.

ICE Policies

Official guidelines bans the arrest of American nationals and the organization has claimed it does not apprehend citizens. Nevertheless, investigative journalism has revealed that over 170 citizens have been detained unlawfully by ICE since the beginning of the present government.

Ongoing Trend

Immigration operations have been becoming more common in NY and nationwide recently.

A mid-October raid in the city center was the initial documented operation on an immigrant shelter of the current administration. Protests targeting federal operations are ubiquitous as are allegations of force and inhumane treatment.

Recently, a submission submitted by legal entities stated inadequate care of pregnant women in government custody.
