The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
