The British government is set to progress with using the entire amount of seized Russia's funds to aid Ukraine's defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this joint measure would escalate tension on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the US.

UK penalties have frozen over £25bn of Russia's resources since the Russian government launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, until now, funds sent to Ukraine using Russian holdings had exclusively been taken from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their desire to push forward toward utilizing the full value of the seized Moscow's national holdings to end the war.

He added that additional measures in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on Russia.

This statement comes after European representatives convened in the Danish capital recently to discuss employing seized Russia's holdings for a €140 billion credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Recently, US President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or otherwise use immobilized Russian funds, based on media sources.

The value of immobilized Russian funds in the Europe is estimated to be nearly €211bn.
