Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in California he was 55 years old.

Zampella's death was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential video game developer lost his life when his car crashed and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in LA on Sunday morning, according to.

"This represents an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and all those touched by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
