Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born former Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is currently.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial stage of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna signed a fresh four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the current global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, should they fail to end up their group second place.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the earliest.
